We have children from a number of different countries in our classroom. One is from Korea, another from South Africa, yet another two are from China, some were born in England and some were born in Australia. Yet most of us are Tauranga born and bred. Lots of us have older or younger brothers and sisters who are at TPS too.
We have been making i-movies about special plants or gardens or places at our school. You can cick on the links and see these. Here is how we made them
We were challenged to write our own explanations of how some things in our school came to be and then produce our ideas as explanation i-movies.
First we were divided into groups. Each group went out in the playground with the class camera and took at least 8 pictures of a plant or stone or a treasure around our school.
Some students wrote questions and went to interview Mrs McNichol about the special trees in our gardens. They met an elderly lady who had planted a tree many years ago when she was a student here.
Secondly we printed the photos, put them into a sequence and then wrote our stories on a story board.
We had to work together in our groups to tell our stories that went alongside our photos. Each story was very different but all explained about something unique at TPS.
Finally we made little movies by transferring our photos in to i-movie. Each group member told a part of the story and we captured them on i sight. We added some i movie transitions, titles and sound effects.
We learned a great deal about movie making. We know its better to record voices in a small room because the classroom noise is too loud in the background. We learnt how to cut the clips to just have each student talking their part of the story.
We had to make decisions about the sounds we used, that went along with the photos. We would like to show you one movie. Here is ‘The Monarch Garden’.
